Continuing our series of posts by travel couples, to determine who does what when it comes to travel organisation, today we find out

“Who’s the boss” at Changes In Longitude?

Larissa & Michael of Changes in Longitude say, “In 2011 we sold everything and took off from Philadelphia for what we thought would be a year-long journey around the world with a Rocky statue. After embracing a much simpler lifestyle we’re still on the road. We’ve been to countries on six continents, from France to Australia to North Korea and beyond, and now call the world our home. We travel slowly, staying in apartments and immersing ourselves in the local culture.”

So, “Who’s the boss?” at Changes on Longitude?

Larissa & Michael each have a full agenda of places to go but sometimes have to negotiate. For example, Michael wanted to visit North Korea and in return for doing so Larissa got the non-nature boy to go on a self-drive safari in Africa. He still hasn’t convinced her to visit Chernobyl though. Mrs. Buzzkill doesn’t want to go places with measurable levels of radiation.

As they are full-time nomads they don’t have any time constraints.

Michael handles planes, trains and automobiles.

When we asked Larissa & Michael about airport lounges their response was “Airports have lounges?”

Both handle getting to airport and the research

We asked about “Who is the Boss?” when it come to organizing accommodation and Larissa wrote “Michael is like Gordon on this one, he just agrees”.

Michael handles internal transportation. Unless he messes it up and Larissa steps in.

Larissa & Michael have a rule, “You pack it, you carry it.”

Both organise visas and passports

Despite his MBA, Michael can never remember what direction foreign currency translations go so he’s at Larissa’s mercy when she says a new dress costs only 50 cents.

As permanent nomads Larissa & Michael don’t have a house but rent flats. They each make sure it’s tidied up when they leave. Larissa handles the kitchen while Michael cleans up the rest.

Despite his aversion to foreign exchange, Michael is the numbers stud who handles paperwork and bills.

Since Larissa is Mac and Michael is a PC man, Larissa prefers handling technology. Michael hasn’t had a phone in over 2 years!

Both find and organise different activities

As travel writers they are constantly sending e-mails to future destinations.

So, “Who’s the boss” at Changes In Longitude?

The results show that we are pretty equal as to who does what. Michael follows the marriage advice he received from his father-in-law, “Nod your head and smile a lot.”
