“We” are Gordon and Paula, and we have been travelling together for 12 years, and independently for a lot longer than that. We have both come from successful long-term careers. Gordon has been a mining https://ampills.com engineer, and I was a teacher in a senior executive position for many years.

We have now spent the last 2 years as full-time travel writers, winning many awards for our contributions to helping other baby boomers and empty nesters to become independent travelers.

about-us

As Baby Boomers, we buck the trends by traveling own way. We think rebelliousness is in our genes. Our left of center approach has seen our site Contented Traveller grow from strength to strength, winning awards for our forthright approach.

As Baby Boomers, we grew up butting heads with authority, so why should things change.

We have worked too hard just to hand over our hard earned money to any middleman when we travel. We are independent-minded and capable of organizing our own travels and hope to inspire and assist you to do the same. In essence, why pay somebody to do a job you can do yourself? Why hand over the control of your itinerary to someone who does not know exactly what you want? Why compromise?

A reality, whether people like it or not, is that Baby Boomers drive the economy and travel is a huge part of our lives. Whatever we have wanted or needed at every point in our lives, the market has found a way to provide it for us. This time the travel industry are scratching their heads as more and more fit, free and financial Baby Boomers are doing it for themselves.

We share our experiences, travel tips and travel advice and show you how doing it for yourselves will save you a lot of money. You may save enough to hire a Mustang, put on some Ry Cooder and head across Route 66 or stay in a luxury villa in the Maldives or ski in Japan. The possibilities that we present to you are only limited by your imagination.

Contented Traveller likes the shabby chic houseboat in Amsterdam, the tatami mat in a ryokan in Japan, the cave house in Goreme. We stay in 5 star hotels when it suits the destination. We like to ski, to have backstreet massages in Chiang Mai and to have a beer with locals in Ghent. That is who we are. We organize our own travels. That is what we do and we are pretty good at it.

When Gordon wanted to see a total eclipse of the sun, we went to Turkey. I wanted to see the Dosojin Fire Festival in Nozawa Onsen in Japan and that gave us powder skiing, a traditional village, a festival and our first onsen.  We just toss ideas around, and it would be a rare occurrence for us not to agree. We tend not to do what would be considered typical.

People may call us selfish, and our answer is yes. We have worked hard and we deserve it. We have given our children a good education and good manners, and it is all about us.

Hey, all of you Baby Boomers, join Paula and Gordon and never accept 2nd best again.
